Human Target - Victoria television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to another episode from the First Season of Human Target. The penultimate episode of the show’s First Season follows the basic formula as Christopher Chance (Mark Valley) is brought in by an old friend (Erick Avari) to protect a woman in danger. The difference here is that the client he is trying to protect is the Princess of Wales and the people who want her killed are her own security. While Chance is keeping Victoria (Christina Cole) away from the assassins, Winston (Chi McBride) and Guerrero (Jackie Earle Haley) protect the woman’s lover (Rey Valentin) who is also in danger.

The profile of the target, and the need for the group to split to protect both Victoria and Tony presents some challenges. Cole is well-cast in the role as the guest-star of the week. Victoria being forced to ask for the help of a former Irish terrorist (Christopher Heyerdahl) who spent years trying to kill her himself, but now holds the evidence they need, is a great scene, as are the quiet scenes between the pair discussing love and how the right person can change your life in an instant. Along with providing another fun episode, the themes of “Victoria” also lead directly into the season finale. Just as Victoria gets her wedding with the man who changed her life for the better, Chance visits the grave of the woman who turned his life upside down. And that story is one of the show’s best.
