While Shawn (James Roday) recovers from a burst appendix Gus (Dulé Hill) enlists the help of his old a capella group (Jaleel White, Mekhi Phifer) to find the attempted murderer of an old friend (Cheech Marin) and the leader of an at-risk youth program.

In order to find out more about one of the gangs who was targeting their friend Deacon, Lassie (Timothy Omundson) enlists the help of Marlo (Kristy Swanson) to get close to a gang leader in her cell block. Although it costs him a broken nose, his girlfriend gives the detective the lead he needed as she discovers the rumor that someone was skimming money from the charity.

Feeling left out Shawn insists on virtually accompanying the group as they talk with Deacon’s assistant Tina (Liza Lapira) who they catch stealing money from the organization’s safe. Even with Shawn on the sideline Gus finds a way to take an unnecessary risk by trying to confront the gang member Deaco, and later Tina, was paying off, but all he accomplishes is to put two of his oldest friends in danger.

With the help of Shawn, Juliet (Maggie Lawson) and Lassiter they are able to save Gus’ friends but when the lead suspect is killed in a car bomb the real killer shows up at the hospital to finish the job.

Even tied to a hospital bed Shawn provides his usual amount of zaniness, mostly through the tablet Gus carries around with him allowing his partner to watch the action. Although I’m confused as to why Phifer replaced Kenan Thompson as the other member of Blackapella, the reunion provides some fun moments as well including two performances by the group and attempts by each of the other members to offer up Gus to Tina in order to protect themselves.
