Rick and Morty - The Rickchurian Mortydate TV review

The Third Season finale of Rick and Morty puts Rick (Justin Roiland) and Morty (Roiland) at odds with the President of the United States (Keith David) whose latest assignment they blow-off to play Minecraft. After being declared enemies of the state, Rick and Morty continue to undercut the President by saving the world before he gets a chance such as brokering peace with a miniature nation in Brazil. Fuel is only added to the fire when the President attempts to have his Secret Service kill Rick in the Oval Office (which only leads to lots, and lots, of dead Secret Service agents).

The pettiness on both sides really makes the episode work, as does Rick’s insistence that the President take a selfie with Morty (long after his grandson has given up on the idea). While the episode explores a new kind of conflict for the pair, who are actually on the same side for pretty much the entire episode, the finale is also working behind the scenes in its B-story to do the most sitcomy thing ever – reset the status quo. It turns out Beth‘s (Sarah Chalke) new realization about who she truly is only makes her paranoid that she’s not the real Beth and drives her back into the arms of Jerry (Chris Parnell) bringing the entire family back together again. Looks like everything is back to normal for Season Four… at least until the next round of chaos begins.
