Samurai Jack - Episode XXII: Jack vs. the Five Hunters television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the adventures of the time-displaced samurai and his quest to make his way home. Looking for a solution to his samurai problems, Aku (Mako) enlists the help of the galaxy’s greatest hunters known as the Imakandi who arrive on Earth and then begin tracking down the samurai.

“Episode XXII” is notable for several reasons. First, our hero does not appear in the first third of the episode. Second, it marks the rare occasion of Aku’s agents besting Jack (Phil LaMarr). And finally, once the chase begins much of the episode features on extended action sequence that ends in our hero’s capture. Unwilling to turn such a noble warrior over to Aku, the Imakandi release the samurai back into the wild to run free and continue his journey. Although the journey refers to “five” hunters, only four Imakandi pursue Jack over the course of the episode suggesting that the fifth hunter could be either Aku (as the agent who starts the hunt) or perhaps Jack who is left free to continue his own hunt at the conclusion of the episode.
