Scooby Saturday takes us back to another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. Planning to attend a Mexican fiesta, Mystery, Inc. arrives at the Mexican village of Cinco only to discover everyone has been scared off by the giant ghost of Katazuma. To save the fiesta, the gang will need to solve the mystery which includes a trip to the nearby Aztec temple where both Katazuma and a moving Aztec Statue are up to no good.
“The Fiesta Host is an Aztec Ghost” follows the standard formula of the show at the time ending in another Fred (Frank Welker) trap backfires but ends up catching the baddies who turn out to be the archeologists fleecing the temple of natural treasures (and using the ghost to keep others away). There are a couple of head-scratching inconsistencies such as the giant footsteps of Katazuma never being explained if his size was all an illusion, but the episode does deliver two memorable-looking villains for the price of one (and is notable for the Mystery Machine’s absence).
