Scooby Saturday takes us back to another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. The first episode of What’s New, Scooby-Doo?, “There’s No Creature Like Snow Creature” takes Mystery, Inc. to a mountain resort where the sudden appearance of a Snow Creature threatens to derail the snowboarding competition. The episode features Chris Klug playing himself as one of the snowboarders injured by the creature.
After Freddy (Frank Welker) is injured as well, and Velma (Mindy Cohn) is temporarily sidelined by a cold, it falls to the rest of the gang to solve the case including Shaggy (Casey Kasem) and Scooby-D00 (Welker) accidentally capturing what turns out to be a remote-controlled mechanical monstrosity controlled by one of the other competitors using it to thin out the competition.
The episode follows the pattern of classic Scooby-D00 with a real-life villain behind the troubles who will get unmasked before all is said a done. Although we don’t get the classic doorway chase, we do get a chase sequency set to the music of “It’s a Rad, Rad World.” Both Fred and Daphne (Grey DeLisle) get notable costume alterations for the series, and Daphne gets to be a little more capable this time around than in many of the previous incarnations.
