Throwback Thursday takes us back to the unsolved crimes of passion in the wealthy playground of Palm Beach, Florida. “Lady Luck” is notable for offering no opening narration, usually featuring some kind of golf metaphor, to set the stage of the crime either pre or post credits. Chris (Rob Estes) and Rita (Mitzi Kapture) go undercover at a moving underground casino whose owner (John Vargas) just killed on of his clients for not being able to pay his debts. Vargas is adequately menacing as the hot-headed Vargas who isn’t above hitting a woman from time to time including both Rita, who goes undercover as a Blackjack dealer, and the local realtor (Holly Gagnier) he’s strong-arming to help him.

The fact that the casino moves from estate to estate, found by Vargas’ realtor, helps limit the plushness of the setting from getting more than the episode’s budget could afford. We get a sequence in a lush hotel suite that never pays off, suggesting at least one scene may have been cut. Eventually our dynamic duo trap the bad guy, after Chris piles up a debt at the tables he can’t afford, and lures him into a situation to expose himself. The episode is also notable for the appearance of Donnie (Dennis Paladino), who chooses not to blow the cops’ cover, and the ups and downs of Chris’ relationship with Annie (Kristen Cloke) who accepts a major opportunity overseas ending her short run on the show.
