Silk Stalkings - Squeeze Play television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the unsolved crimes of passion in the wealthy playground of Palm Beach, Florida. Chris (Rob Estes) and Rita (Mitzi Kapture) catch a case where one of Rita’s ex-boyfriends (Dan Gauthier) is the prime suspect in a murder. The crime takes place in the pre-credit sequence where the ballplayer was making out with a married woman (Bonnie Burroughs) in her driveway leading to an altercation between the athlete and her older husband (Kevin Bash). It doesn’t help his case that the woman’s story sets him off as a sexual predator and paints her husband as hero attempting to rescue her.

Burroughs is the highlight here as the femme fatale who set the stage perfectly then killed her husband while the ballplayer fled, but she goes one step too far in trying to sell her scheme leading Chris and Rita to reexamine the case from another angle and, thanks to the insight of the woman’s step-son (Bill Calvert) see through her web of lies. Along with the suspect being an old flame of Rita, “Squeeze Play” is also notable for the murderer getting away with the crime as Donovan (William Anton) is unable to make a case with the evidence available or get the woman to agree to plea deal. However, her victory lasts only moments as vengeance comes looking.
