While still including the ill-fated police investigation into finding Maul (Sam Witwer) which I’m already tiring of, “Whispers in the Unknown” and “Pride and Vengeance” give us Maul’s attempts to pull the Jedi Padawan Devon Izara (Gideon Adlon) towards the Dark Side (likely reminding viewers of his similar attempts to win over Ezra Bridger) and get revenge by taking down the Pykes and bending another syndicate to his will.
Highlights of the two episodes boil down mostly to Maul’s action sequences against the Pykes and the police, which certainly provide the kind of action the series needs to deliver on, and Maul toying with the young Padawan (although unless there’s a dark turn coming for Devon, I’m less interested in seeing Maul fail at turning yet another impressionable young Jedi than actually see him interact with an apprentice). Plot-wise the series feels a bit stuck in the mud, with events occurring but not necessarily pushing the story along, although the arrival of the Empire should kick things into a new gear.

The season finale is definitely action-packed. With the focus on the three Jedi and our first look at a Sith temple, “Twilight of the Apprentice” offers three Inquisitors, Maul, and eventually an appearance by Darth Vader (James Earl Jones) himself.
