Super Friends Saturday takes us back to the Hall of Justice and the adventures of the world’s greatest heroes created from the cosmic legends of the universe. The third episode of the original show’s run, “Professor Goodfellow’s G.E.E.C.” makes for interesting viewing in 2026. The episode centers around the concerns of the Super Friends about emerging AI technology created by Professor Goodfellow (Casey Kasem) to make the world a better place by freeing mankind of all physical labor and responsibility.
Although more centered around concerns about the unintended consequences in creating laziness among the populace, which is demonstrated by Marvin (Frank Welker), than the machines rising up to take over the world or destroying natural resources, the episode still hits a little harder today than perhaps at any time since its premiere on September 22, 1973.
We get our core cast to deal with the trouble of what happens when the professor’s technology begins to malfunction due to a single mouse sneaking into the computer. Superman (Danny Dark) and Aquaman (Norman Alden) struggle to deal with the machines out of control while Wonder Woman (Shannon Farnon), Batman (Olan Soule), and Robin (Kasem), and separately Marvin, Wendy (Sherry Alberoni), and Wonder Dog (Welker), all attempt to get into the factory and shut the G.E.E.C. down.
Along with our core heroes, the episode is also notable for the first, and only, appearance of Plastic Man (Alden) who is summoned to help safely remove the mouse from the computer. Despite being brief, Plastic Man’s appearance does set up the idea of other heroes who will be introduced to the series over the years.
