Characters step outside their comfort zone as Sheldon (Jim Parsons) attempts to nurse a sick Amy (Mayim Bialik) back to health and Howard (Simon Helberg), during an awkward dinner with Bernadette’s (Melissa Rauch) parents, agrees to go on a fishing trip with Bernadette’s father (Casey Sander), a retired police officer with whom he has nothing in common.

Penny (Kaley Cuoco) agrees to give Howard a crash course in fishing basics which only makes him more convinced that the entire outing is doomed to failure. Only in finally declining the offer of the fishing trip does Howard finally find common ground with his father-in-law. Meanwhile, enjoying Sheldon taking the time and effort to take care of her, Amy pretends to be sick long after she gets over the flu.

Both stories work to further the particular relationships and provide some fun moments. Howard finally finds some common ground with his father in law and the pair come up with an alternative weekend activity the can both enjoy, and Amy, after he deception is discovered by Sheldon, gladly admits to a punishment that she enjoys even more than the crime.
