The Blacklist - Dr. James Covington

While dealing with loyalty issues inside his own organization, Reddington (James Spader) sends Lizzie (Megan Boone) and the FBI after an once-prominent heart surgeon (Ron C. Jones) operating on the black market who allows the criminal elite to rent organs from transplants for an exorbitant fee every year of their prolonged life. Eventually tracking the man down from the dead clients whose organs were removed when they couldn’t keep up with the payments, Lizzie is faced with a hard choice whether or not to allow the doctor to perform a risky experimental procedure on a patient or allow the young boy to die.

The B-story involving three prominent members of Red’s organization in disagreement with Red’s current actions feature Paul Reubens as a supposed agent of Berlin who convinces one member of the group to betray their leader. Unfortunately for the traitor, as the show has demonstrated, Reddington is one-step ahead the entire time. Reubens is entertaining in the role, but his final scene (while humorous, and somewhat expected) likely means we won’t see much of him going forward.

The thread of Lizzie’s nomadic lifestyle gets a bit more time this week as Cooper (Harry Lennix) voices his understanding but concern about what Lizzie’s experiences with her “husband” have done to her. We also meet Berlin’s (Peter Stormare) newest agent (Hal Ozsan) tasked with keeping an eye on Lizzie… and perhaps more? As to the answers to the secrets Lizzie both keeps and searches for, the teaser for next week’s episode suggest we may learn something quite troubling about Ms. Keen very soon.
