The Flash - Rogue Air

Leaving next week’s season finale to deal with the fallout from this week’s episode and Barry‘s (Grant Gustin) quest to save his mother, “Rogue Air” returns several of the villains from the first season, brings in to super-hero guest-stars, and wraps up the Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh) storyline (at least for now). With the Reverse-Flash apparently ready for an end game that includes repowering the particle accelerator (which would kill all the meta-humans within the makeshift prison), Barry is faced with calling on the help of Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) who, not surprisingly decides to use the situation to his own advantage.

The episode covers quite a bit of ground including closing the door on Eddie (Rick Cosnett) and Iris‘ (Candice Patton) relationship and starting to ask hard questions not only about where S.T.A.R. Labs should store criminal meta-humans but whether or not they should be doing it at all. Although the Flash gets burned by Cold, that doesn’t deter him from asking for help from a more reliable source and bringing both Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) and Firestrom (Robbie Amell), who like the Flash could use a Season 2 makeover in the wardrobe department, back to Central City to help Barry take down the time-traveling murderer who kill Barry’s mother.

Although the episode doesn’t bring back Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), Snart does bring along his sister Lisa (Peyton List) who earns her own super-villain nickname and, as in her previous appearance, continues to flirt with Cisco (Carlos Valdes). In the Arrow tradition, “Rogue Air” continues to build on the mistakes and learning moments of our hero, but it does break from Arrow‘s basic formula of building to a season finale cataclysmic event by wrapping up the big fight before the season finale allowing The Flash to explore bigger themes such as time travel which are likely to the show’s Second Season and beyond in next week’s episode.
