The Shannara Chronicles - Fury

The attack of the demon, Allanon‘s (Manu Bennett) injury, and the capture of Amberle Elessedil (Poppy Drayton) and Wil Ohmsford (Austin Butler) by Rovers leads to an extended detour for fellowship’s return to Arborlon. Eventually the group will make it back to the Elven kingdom, but not before another encounter with Eretria (Ivana Baquero) and her father’s (James Remar) band and another demon attack which forces Wil to step-up and use the elf stones to save the day (something he vows to never do again).

The first episode following the two-part premiere keeps the same production values and wandering story structure. Together, but not yet truly united, Amberle and Wil have several fun scenes as the pair get to know each other on the road (especially given Amberle’s reaction to Wil’s previous encounter with Eretria). Other than the nameless demons which Wil and Allanon both dispatch, we don’t get any scenes from the show’s villains in this episode as the leaves from the Ellcrys continue to fall.

Not surprisingly, Wil’s decision to abandon the quest is short-lived thanks to the the intervention of a new supporting character, Bandon (Marcus Vanco), who like the princess carries dark visions of the future and knows without Wil’s assistance Amberle’s fate is sealed. Whether the character has served his purpose simply by keeping Wil on the right path, or if the elf may have more to offer, remains to be seen. “Fury” ends with its male lead choosing for himself to commit to the quest before him and the show’s lead female character beginning her own spiritual journey within the tree itself.
