The show centers around two roomates, hopeless scientist geeks Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) whose routines of Halo nights, playing World of Warcraft, and discussing super-heroes and scientific principles with their friends Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) are changed by the arrival of a cute midwestern gal named Penny (Kaley Cuoco) who moves into the apartment across the hall.
There’s not great art to the storytelling, but the show has had many memorable moments including Sheldon breaking into Penny’s apartment to clean, Leonard’s schoolboy crush on his new neighbor, Sheldon insulting his boss, and the gang arguing the scientific inaccuracies “inherent” in Superman (as seen in this clip). I’m also interested to see what turn Leonard’s crush on Penny will take as she seemed open to giving the nice guy a try in the Halloween episode “The Middle Earth Paradigm.” If you would like to watch more clips on the show click here.
The show started out with a bang (heh) for its first episode and has been pretty good so far. Whether it can continue and improve over time depends on how much the show is willing to let the characters grow (not a strength for sitcoms) and not make them simply geek cliches. I’d recommend you take a look at it and see what you think, and since production of the show, like many others, was halted due to the writer’s strike chances are you’ll get every opportunity to catch early re-runs of the show.
