Wednesday - If You Don't Woe Me By Now / A Murder of Woes

The final two episodes of Wednesday‘s First Season dealing with Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) solving the mystery of the monster and the murders not once but twice with her realizing she’s actually been duped into believing Xavier (Percy Hynes White) is the monster, although the identity of the actual monster hits closer to home, and she’s completely mistaken about the identity of the woman controlling him. The penultimate episode of the season also brings a visit from Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) while the final two episodes pull on various threads from the season allowing for Enid (Emma Myers) first transformation and make-up with her bestie, the culmination of Wednesday’s visions and the prophecy, and Wednesday’s friends standing up for her in the final battle including Eugene (Moosa Mostafa) and his bees.

The show has set up to likely candidates in Dr. Kinbott (Riki Lindhome) and Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci) to be Laurel Gates returned to exact revenge, hinting strongly at one of the pair as the red herring Wednesday would accuse first, and then reveal the more obvious choice (at least in terms of casting) in the final episode. I’ll admit the resurrected Joseph Crackstone (William Houston) doesn’t do much for me, but his return does help galvanize Nevermore behind Wednesday. Given the events at the end of the episode, Wednesday’s expulsion is expunged, but should she return for another year there will be changes with the need of a new headmistress, a few new teachers and students, and likely another macabre mystery to solve.
