Young Justice - Private Security television review

Although there a larger issues at play throughout, including a dramatic subplot involving Zatanna (Lacey Chabert) and her father (Nolan North), “Private Security” offers one of the more enjoyable episodes early in the show’s Third Season as (in return for helping them take an a meta-human trafficking ring later), Robin (Jesse McCartney), Jim Harper (Crispin Freeman) and Roy Harper (Freeman) all agree to help Will Harper (Freeman) by working for his security firm for the day and standing in for his sick workers. And it’s just horrendously bad luck for super-human gangster Brick (Khary Payton) and his crew that they choose this day to try and rob the shipment.

In a season that is largely about the trafficking of meta-humans, and building up the characters who will become the core of the Outsiders, “Private Security” works well as a standalone episode that allows the characters to breathe a bit more and have some fun. It’s notable the actual raid on the trafficking ring happens off-screen offering more time for the private security hijinks earlier in the episode. Balancing this is the heartbreaking scene of Zatanna following her yearly one-hour visit from her father before he becomes nothing more than the vessel for Doctor Fate (Kevin Michael Richardson).
