The murder of her former mentor (Jason Beghe) sends Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle (Nathan Fillion) to Los Angeles against orders on the trail of his killer (Dominic Purcell who you might recognize as the title character from John Doe or as Dracula in Blade: Trinity) and specialized bullets any hitman would be willing to kill for.

The episode also includes a cameo by KISS lead singer Gene Simmons, a trip to the set of “Naked Heat” and an oddly surreal interrogation sequence that’s as much cinematic illusion as it is real. The scene where Beckett runs into the faux Ryan and Espisito on the set is also pretty good.

We’re also give yet another tease of something more in the Castle/Beckett relationship as the pair spend more time together, separated by the rest of gang by an entire continent. Although it’s more tease than substance the scene between them in the motel room and Beckett’s reaction to Ryan’s read of the couple’s feelings for each other holds some promise that their celibate nature of their relationship may not go on forever.
