Arrow - League of Assassins

Beginning with the shipwreck, the latest episode’s flashbacks begin to fill in the gaps of Sara‘s (Caity Lotz) journey from the the helpless survivor near death lost in the middle of the ocean, to her time on the freighter under the care of Dr. Anthony Ivo (Dylan Neal), and her journey to Nanda Parbat and membership in the League of Assassins who have come to Starling City in search of their missing member.

After Sara admits the truth, Oliver (Stephen Amell) puts Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) to work on trying to convince former-Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne) to take a vacation and to finding Al-Owal (Navid Negahban), the assassin leading the group who trained Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) and who has orders to return Sara (alive or dead) to Nanda Parbat. When her father ignores Felicity’s warning, Sara chooses to reveal herself to Detective Lance in an attempt to keep him safe although to do so she has to reveal several uncomfortable truths about what she’s been up to the past four years.

Green Arrow’s timely arrival helps save Sara and her father from Al-Owal and the assassins, but to keep her family safe Sara coninces her father to keep her survival a secret. But to keep them safe from the next group of assassins, the Canary decides to leaves Starling City for good. Oliver also has to find a way to help Thea (Willa Holland) talk Moira (Susanna Thompson) out of accepting the District Attorney’s plea bargain for lifetime imprisonment.

Although the events with Sara make Ollie begin to open up to Diggle (David Ramsey) about his life off the island during his missing years, the show says goodbye (for now) to Black Canary just as it was starting to delve into her story. Laurel‘s (Katie Cassidy) self-destructive decent continues and we’ll likely see her hit rock-bottom before anything changes. Ivo is an interesting choice of character to add to the story which makes it seem that events on the freighter were much more complicated than they initially appeared. Next week offers the potential for more revelations about both Ollie and Diggle’s past as well as the return of a common enemy in Deadshot (Michael Rowe).
