It’s a little unfortunate the Stargirl didn’t start a year or two earlier. One of the better shows of the Arrowverse, the show concluded with its third and final season collected here on DVD (but oddly not also available on Blu-ray which both the previous seasons were released on). The season continues the heroic journey of Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) who is thrown for a loop by the return of the original Starman (Joel McHale) who outwardly attempts to help while sewing descension and uncertainty among the group in hopes of gaining control of the staff.

The Flash – A New World

The four-part series finale of The Flash reminds us of the highs and lows of the series with returns of several familiar faces, touching on familiar themes, and unnecessarily bloating the story with excess B-storylines for the numerous characters. The original spinoff to Arrow, The Flash helped cement the foundations of the Arrowverse. At its best the Scarlet Speedster entertained while keeping its focus on the humanity of criminal scientist Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) who used his speed to help save Central City from all kinds of threats, included some inadvertently caused by himself.

Reading the writing on the wall, the season finale of Stargirl was filmed with two possible endings. One would tease next season’s arc and the other, in case the show was indeed cancelled, would wrap-up the series’ various storylines. With the announced cancellation of the series, it was the latter that aired which not only concluded the JSA’s battle with Icicle (Neil Jackson), Dr. Ito, and the Ultra-Huminate inside Sylvester (Joel McHale) body, but also offered a series of epilogue scenes to say farewell to fans and suggest what might have happened in upcoming seasons had the show been renewed.

Following the death of the Crocks, the long-brewing Sylvester (Joel McHale) decides to take action, burning bridges with both Courtney (Brec Bassinger) and Pat (Luke Wilson) and leaving a few words of advice for the other new members of the JSA to continue to honor his fallen friends and build the ranks of the new JSA. Despite his friend’s harsh words, Pat refuses to let Starman face Icicle (Neil Jackson) alone, although he’s not prepared with how the night ends with the big reveal of the reasons behind Starman’s unstable behavior throughout the season.

After making his appearance known to the Crocks at the end of the last episode, Icicle (Neil Jackson) returns home offering a message of peace (despite the whole murder thing just hours before). From there, Blue Valley’s favorite son makes his public return to a shocked Barbara (Amy Smart) who is able to guess his role in the death of the Crocks without any difficulty. Meanwhile, the JSA help Artemis (Stella Smith) search for her missing parents leading them to discover the villain’s lair and the fate of the Crocks at the hands of the JSA’s proposed new ally against the Ultra-Humanite. While the Humanite is the looming threat, it’s Icicle and the question of his role in Blue Valley moving forward (and the unique combination of fear, hatred, hope, and forgiveness his reemergence brings out from various characters) that is central to the episode.
