Arrow - Legends of Yesterday

The conclusion to the two-part The Flash/Arrow crossover, “Legends of Yesterday” picks up where “Legends of Today” left off with our heroes returned to Central City in hopes of preventing Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) from killing the latest reincarnations of Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) and Hawkman (Falk Hentschel). As both Hawkman and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) attempt to help Kendra remember the hero she once was Oliver (Stephen Amell) becomes distracted by the sighting of an old girlfriend (Anna Hopkins) and a young boy he correctly suspects may be his son.

“Legends of Yesterday” features two battles between Vandal Savage and our heroes. The first doesn’t go so well, causing Barry to travel back in time a day to try and put events right without screwing up the timeline too badly. The end result is a victory over Vandal Savage, although the episode’s epilogue involving Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) foreshadows the return of the villain to plague the new spin-off Legends of Tomorrow beginning in January.

It’s not every episode of Arrow in which you get to see the casts of both Arrow and The Flash killed off and have Oliver torpedo his relationship with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). More so than their earlier team-ups, our heroes are able to function much better as a team this time around (including the various supporting characters from both sides). Although Barry’s time jump helps save his friends, and temporarily hide Oliver’s bastard child from his current girlfriend, the Green Arrow’s choice to lie once again about his son will no doubt come back to bite him in the ass yet again somewhere down the line.
