Murder Mystery Monday takes us back to the most famous mystery writer of Cabot Cove. While visiting her old friend Peggy (Piper Laurie), Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) stumbles into a murder case when Peggy’s ex-husband (Ed Ames) turns up dead and her two grown children (Joseph Bottoms and Linda Purl) look like prime suspects along with the tennis player (Joseph Cali) her daughter Terry was dating primarily to piss off her father.

The number of red herrings for Jessica to wade through are the biggest strength of “Murder at the Oasis,” including how Terry’s actions after the murder could be viewed as framing her boyfriend for the crime (so much so that I wonder if she was the script’s original killer). The reveal of the truth behind a mob killing isn’t the strongest, but there’s still fun getting there. Fans of Superman II will also note Jack O’Halloran as one of the victim’s closest friends.
