Ricky Gervais, The Descendants, and The Artist a hit with the Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais returned to host the Golden Globes again Sunday night. The big winners of the night were The Descendants and The Artist taking home Best Picture Awards from Drama and Comedy respectively. Both films’ leading men took home awards for Best Actor as well. I was happy to see Michelle Williams take home Best Actress for Comedy for My Weekend with Marilyn. On the television side Homeland was a big winner taking home the award for Best Drama and a Best Actress Award for Claire Danes. And Modern Family was Awarded the Golden Globe for Best Comedy. Bond celebrates turning 50 with new Blu-ray box set

Put Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt in a movie together and you’ve piqued my interest, throw in a quirky script from Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) and you’ve now got my full attention. Adapted from the novel by Paul Torday comes the tale of a fisheries expert (McGregor) enlisted to help bring fly-fishing to the Middle East. Kristin Scott ThomasRachael StirlingAmr Waked, and Catherine Steadman also star. Directed by Lasse Hallström, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen opens in theaters on March 9th.

The first trailer for The Dark Knight Rises hit the interwebs earlier this week and left us a bit… underwhelmed. Maybe it’s just me, but don’t you want to see Batman in a trailer for a Batman movie? Christopher Nolan‘s third and final Bat-film introduces Bane (Tom Hardy) and Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) into the mix forcing Batman (Christian Bale) out of retirement eight years after the death of Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart). Marion CotillardJoseph Gordon-LevittGary OldmanMorgan FreemanMichael CaineJuno Temple, and Josh Pence (as a young Ra’s al Ghul) also star.
