Young Hellboy: Assault on Castle Death #2

The four-issue mini-series continues with a feverish Hellboy living out a fantasy of an adventure with his hero the Lobster while unknowingly being pursued by a very real threat in the assassin from a cult sent to kill him.

The best thing Young Hellboy: Assault on Castle Death #2 has going for it is how well writers Mike Mignola and Thomas Sniegoski capture the feeling of Hellboy as a kid. On a fever-fueled adventure, Hellboy is having a grand time fighting undead soldiers (BPRD guards) and storming Castle Death (a warehouse) with his hero.

Darth Vader #27

Continuing the unexpected alliance of Darth Vader and Sabé against Governor Tauntaza, Darth Vader #27 brings the fight to the Governor and what she mistakenly believes is her unbreachable fortress. The comic is notable for its action and Vader and Sabé each saving each other’s lives with the Dark Lord of the Sith putting off the attack on the Governor to rescue Sabé from a sandstorm and later the former handmaiden choosing to help a wounded and defenseless Vader after his successful attack on the Governor.

Fables #155

Fables #155 continues to move the numerous storylines along incrementally without any getting much time. Ambrose is the first to return, easing his parents’ concern despite his other siblings still off on their own adventures. We see more than a few clues that the wandering hero Connor has decided to follow is anything but, and Jack continues settling into the odd modern world where Pan has shown up as well.

Iron Cat #4

Iron Cat #4 continues the comic’s opening arc with the betrayal of Madame Menace now loose and planning to destroy the world and Tamara Blake forced to work with Black Cat and Iron Man to try to fix the mess she caused in her quest for revenge. While giving us the “apparent” death of Blake, there’s plenty of misdirection here and it certainly wouldn’t surprise me to see her pop back up before the arc concludes.

Midnight Suns #1

Kicking off a four-issue mini-series, a group of heroes are brought together to investigate an ominous prophecy involving a student at the Strange Academy. Some are brought by the vision, some are at the school as guest lecturer, others are recruited, and one shows up on their own. By the end of the issue, however, we have a bit of a motley group assembled for what’s to come.
