Predator: Black, White & Blood #1

Following the format of other black-and-white anthology series, Predator: Black, White & Blood #1 offers three tales featuring the characters originally introduced in the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sadly, there’s not much here unless you are a diehard Predator fan.

The Brave and the Bold #67

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to a Batman team-up from the classic anthology The Brave and the Bold. Originally launched to highlight heroes and swashbucklers from the past, eventually the comic morphed into a Batman team-up book. The Brave and the Bold #67 features Batman and the Flash working together to take down a gang of thieves enhanced by sneakers allowing them to move too fast for the Dark Knight Detective to catch them. Unaware that the Flash is suffering from a condition where the use of his super-speed is slowly killing him, Batman enlists the help of Central City’s hero to catch the thieves.

Fantastic Four #1

A new volume of Fantastic Four kicks off here with Sue, Reed, Ben, and Johnny (in a ridiculous mustache) in middle battle with the new emperor of the Marvel Universe – Doctor Doom. Tired of dealing with the foursome, Doom sends them hurtling through time with each member of the team landing centuries apart in the past or future where they can no longer cause him grief (but apparently the computer network tied into their suits still works).

Supergirl #3

I finally figured out what this comic reminds me of. With it’s small town setting and problems that can ultimately be solved with kind words and a hug, this run of Supergirl reminds me of Archie comics (in a good way). Rebranded “Phonygirl,” Supergirl continues to try and win back the inhabitants of Midvale and free them from machinations of the Kandorian Lesla-Lar whose obsession with Kara has led her to try and take over her life. Unable to keep playing hero, Lesla-Lar then turns to villain.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight – A League for Justice #1

Obviously set within the world of Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, after an introduction by Adam Strange about Kryptonians and search for artifacts in this world (summarizing events from the Kryptonian Age mini-series) for those unfamiliar with the world, Gotham by Gaslight – A League for Justice begins with Batman, Wonder Woman, Alan Scott, and the Martian Manhunter (with the latter two having  issues with each other to work out) in a stand-off with Superman on the dirt streets of Smallville. Apparently all arriving separately, the group breaks into private squabbles with some helping Superman with the Victorian Age versions of various DC villains robbing the local bank and Batman fading into the night with what he came for.
