G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #282

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #282 comic reviewThe Joes are called in front of a Senate Hearing to justify their actions in Springfield in saving Throwdown (AKA the new original Snake Eyes). What they don’t know is that one of the Senators is a Cobra sympathizer (broadcasting the entire event to Cobra Commander) and another of the Senators is unwittingly a brainwashed sleeper agent who Cobra attempts to trigger during the testimony.

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #282 is certainly a step back in terms of action from many of the recent issues. What we do get is a Cobra plant attempting to sneak into the Senate chambers and activate their sleeper agent. While Sherlock (a new Joe making her debut here) is able to stop him, the truth about his mission is still unknown to the Joes and another agent of Cobra is able to clean up the mess by killing their other plant.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #117

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #117 comic reviewI do so love this comic. The battle of the bands is finally here as Jennika and her group put on a show so good that Bebop and Rocksteady admit defeat without ever taking the stage. We also get peace between the Turtles and Karai and the end to future Lita‘s time travel adventure as events are back on the proper path allowing her to return home (and take a couple of guests with her as well). And that future, it looks mighty bright.

The issue is filled with several great moments from the victory of the band, to Koya‘s almost too cute for words request to return for future engagements, to Lita’s sweet farewells (I’m not crying, you’re crying!), to the start of a new romance, and to the tease of the return of a core character back to the main storyline (although in an entirely new context). The creative team event gives me a cool hero moment for my favorite Turtle.

Far Sector #12

Far Sector #12 comic reviewSojourner Mullein‘s mission at the far edge of space concludes in the series’ final issue. The City Enduring is on fire, and with only a limited charge left in her ring the Green Lantern has to attempt to bring peace before the civilization destroys itself.

In the end, it’s Sojourner’s words which prove to be the most powerful weapon in her arsenal as she is able to convince the leader of the fleet to stop the orbital bombardment of their own people. The issue ends with an unexpected amount of epilogue, with the Green Lantern remaining in the city to watch it begin to heal and the civilization begin to rebuild. She is also able to find a moment of happiness with one of her new friends before moving on to her next adventure in the current Green Lantern title.

Green Lantern #3

Green Lantern #3 comic reviewThe Central Power Battery is offline, leaving Green Lanterns stranded across space without the use of their rings. While much of Green Lantern #3 makes use of John Stewart on a planet in the Dark Sector making due without the use of his ring, the rest of the comic catches up with other Lanterns taking us to Oa where Sojourner Mullein has returned from her mission in the Far Sector to try and rally what remains of the Corps.

In recent years various Green Lantern titles have created a small number of Lanterns with “different” rings. Sojourner is one, Teen Lantern‘s gauntlet is another, and halfway across the universe appearing in cameo from Earth is the only Green Lantern who ever forged his own ring.

The Invincible Red Sonja #2

The Invincible Red Sonja #2 comic reviewRed Sonja‘s return to Erkhara as the protector of Princess Zaria doesn’t begin easily. Not only does she have to protect the princess against attack, but Sonja’s return hasn’t gone unnoticed by the kingdom’s wizard who has put a bounty on Sonja’s head as well. On the eve of the wedding, we also get an attack on Zaria’s life and the theft of the crown jewels of the city. It doesn’t appear things will get any easier for Sonja in the days to come.

Most of the action from this second issue comes from Sonja running down an assassin across the city. We also get a battle with an unknown creature in a dark pit, which is cleverly hidden from the viewer as the creature from the shadows finishes off the would-be assassin.
