G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero – Silent Missions (Spirit)

Honoring the original “Silent Interlude” issue from G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #21 from 1984, Image and Skybound are putting together a series of silent issue one-shots featuring different characters. G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero – Spirit #1 features Spirit and Freedom looking into mysterious disappearances in the forest which lead them to a Cobra (possibly Revanche?) factory in a cleared area in the middle of the woods.

Red Sonja vs. The Army of Darkness #1

Mashing up two franchises, as Dynamite Entertainment is want to do, we get Red Sonja vs. The Army of Darkness #1 which opens in the present with a despondent Ash Williams thinking back on his glory days (as seen in Army of Darkness). This leads to a little researching about the time period he left and an attack by a She-Devil with a Sword which he chooses to try and prevent by pulling out a very different book and traveling back to what he thinks will be the world he left.

Usagi Yojimbo: Ten Thousand Plums #2

Usagi Yojimbo: Ten Thousand Plums #2 picks up at the moment the first issue ended with GenMiyamoto Usagi and Yukichi, having been stopped by the Shogun’s men, hearing cries which lead them to a field of bodies and the only living witness being a young girl too stunned to explain what she saw (or so our wanderers believe). We’ll get more uncertainty from our travelers, who are still quick enough to jump into action, but it will appear to be at least one more issue before they become aware just what story is unfolding here.

Titans #22

A new arc begins here beginning with a flashback to Absolute Power and explaining it was Terra who restored and freed Deathstroke during Amanda Waller‘s reign of tyranny. Jumping forward, we don’t get a confrontation between the Titans and their deadliest foe, instead we get the group (with Vanadia) looking over a crime scene where Nightwing reconstructs the events of a prison break (“Boy-Wondering” as Starfire calls it) providing the action of the issue in another series of flashbacks.

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero – Silent Missions (Beach Head)

Honoring the original “Silent Interlude” issue from G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #21 from 1984, Image and Skybound are putting together a series of silent issue one-shots featuring different characters. While I didn’t enjoy it as much as G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero – Jinx #1, this one-off issue featuring a wounded Beach Head crashing down in a DMZ and being helped by a local woman and her child who he in turn helps with Cobra comes for him, has some nice moments by working around the need for foreign dialogue in an issue without any dialogue and then saving most of the action until the end with the Joe fighting to hold out long enough for his friends to arrive.
