Batgirl #7

Following the apparent death of Shiva in the last issue, Batgirl #7 kicks off a new arc diving into the origins of Cassandra Cain‘s mother as we launch into the first chapter of “The Book of Shiva” when Cassandra receives both a memoir and recording. If this issue is going to be the template we’ll likely get little of Cassandra, who we really only see at the beginning of the issue then stepping away as Shiva’s story is told to her through flashbacks.

Secret Six #3

The third issue of the series pretty much follows the same pattern we’ve seen over the course of the first couple of issues with the primary focus being on Jon Kent (feeling out of place), Gossamer (feeling conflicted), and Dreamer (feeling murderous and having her motivations and actions questioned), although we do get more of Deadshot and Catman here (albeit out of costume for the most part as the entire group goes undercover at a club looking for a new lead to the missing Amanda Waller. It feels very much like a middle issue of a larger issue treading water until the big reveal.

Nights #15

Gray and Erik working with Agent Tsukumari takes them to Liechtenstein offering an encounter with a giant snake before being transferred to another realm of the hidden island of Thule. Nights #15 is mostly about the pair bristling under their new indentured servitude to the agent of Chimera. The magic 8-ball continues to play a part in this as it’s revealed Thule was where it was leading Tsukumari the entire time. However, while the other two may find acceptance in this unusual island, the agent isn’t given quite as warm a welcome by some in the community.

The Question: All Along the Watchtower #6

The Question: All Along the Watchtower six-issue mini-series comes to an end with Renee surviving the latest attempt of Cyborg-Superman to kill her (thanks to the quick actions of one of the Blue Beetles). Foiled in his attempt to destroy the station, the villain decides instead to bring the station closer to Earth and unleash the brainwashed heroes on the planet below.

Batman #159

The Hush sequel (which is unfortunately being referred to as H2SH) continues here. Hush has returned and has put Batman in a situation to go to extraordinary lengths to save the life of the Joker (who after getting emergency treatment by Dr. Leslie Thompkins gets his own gurney in the Batcave). On the plus side, the story features Batman adorned with the classic Bat-Symbol (although sadly not the Bronze Age utility belt) and cameos aplenty (like the original) with Batgirl, Nightwing, the Riddler, and the Red Hood (back in the original helmet).
