Once and Future #4

Once and Future #4 comic reviewIssue #4 begins to fill in some gaps as both Duncan and Rose begin to understand their role in the story that is slowly unfolding as zombie knights of Camelot show up in the Grail Castle to begin the quest. Rose, it appears, will be the brains of the operation, while Duncan’s middle name offers a clue to his role in the story. As the new Galahad begins the search for the Grail our heroes have another contemporary of an even older Grail Knight to lead their search.

There’s a bit of action here as we get to see one of the zombie knights make swift work of some local policemen, but the main purpose of Once and Future #4 is to continue building the story as Bridgette works to sell Rose and her grandson on their roles in the story that is unfolding around them (whether or not they choose to accept it).

Far Sector #1

Far Sector #1 comic reviewOn the far edge of the known universe a new Green Lantern looks to solve the first major crime in the City Enduring in the last 500 years. Far Sector #1 introduces readers to rookie Lantern Sojourner Mullein who although green (forgive the pun) is the metropolis’ best chance of solving a crime they have no experience with.

The story has a strong sci-fi premise with more than a whiff of Isaac Asimov. The setting is a vast metropolis that houses three separate races of aliens who have removed emotion from the equation (after tempers last led to the destruction of several worlds).

Event Leviathan #6

Event Leviathan #6 comic reviewThe six-issue mini-series concludes with confirmation that former Manhunter Mark Shaw is the man responsible for stealing Leviathan away from Talia al Ghul and putting it to work to take down the DC Universe’s various spy agencies. Batgirl also arrives in time to reveal Leviathan’s endgame: leverage and expose various secrets around the world to gain control and gain power (and do what Manhunters were designed to do and bring order).

While far from a flashy choice, Shaw works as the man behind the mask that even revealed leaves him something of a mystery (Superman doesn’t even recognize him). With Shaw and Leviathan still at large as the mini-series comes to an end, this offers a chance for further explore both the leader and the organization over the coming months in potentially several different DC titles.
