Usagi Yojimbo #6

Usagi Yojimbo #6 comic reviewWith the 35th anniversary of the character’s first appearance, creator Stan Sakai takes us back to the beginning by expanding the original 8-page story in which the character appeared (“The Goblin of Adachigahara”) in this look at the wandering rabbit ronin’s travels leading him back to the plains of Adachi where Lord Mifune fell in battle years before.

Available in multiple variant covers, Usagi Yojimbo #6 is certainly worth picking up for both longtime readers and newcomers to get a glimpse into what makes Miyamoto Usagi tick.

Young Justice #10

Young Justice #10 comic reviewYoung Justice #10 concludes the comic’s multiverse-jumping arc with our intrepid heroes kicking the butts of the not-so-heroic-heroes of Earth-3 before finally making it home. While I enjoyed the arc, and will miss this version of Stephanie Brown stepping up to take on the role of the main Bat-character in the alternate world as Batwoman, I do have to agree with Impulse that the storyline peaked with the team meeting the Zoo Crew.

As has been the comic’s set-up, this issue also provides flashbacks to another member of the team fleshing out the past of Jinny Hex (and her inheritance of all kinds of weird weapons left to her by great-great-grandfather (one of which makes her, literally, a much larger member of the team).

Black Cat #6

Black Cat #6 comic reviewBlack Cat #6 moves away from the previous issues as it doesn’t involve Felicia Hardy breaking into a well-known location within the Marvel Universe. However, it does continue to follow-up on various threads introduced in previous issues. One of these includes Odessa Drake and the Thieves Guild going after the Black Fox.

As for the Black Cat, she’s given the night out with a surprisingly good first date with Batroc the Leaper which involves dinner, some late night breaking-and-entering, burglary, and other carnal pursuits. While Felicia doesn’t expect much from Batroc, I was surprised by his inclusion here (and, like Felicia, surprised to discover how charming he can be when he isn’t bouncing around in a ridiculous outfit).
