Supergirl #34

Supergirl #34 comic reviewAfter spending several issues away from Earth looking into Rogol Zaar and the destruction of Krypton, Supergirl #34 marks the return of Supergirl to Earth. An Event Leviathan tie-in, Supergirl discovers quite a bit has happened since she’s been gone including the attacks of the mystery group Leviathan on various DCU spy agencies. Discoveries when lead to tears on those lost and shock with reconnecting with others.

Along with giving us Supergirl swooping through her old stomping grounds (with Krypto no less!), the comic also offers an extended action sequence between the Maid of Might and agents of Leviathan who might have been able to take down Supergirl if not for the unexpected assist from an old friend.

James Bond 007 #11

James Bond 007 #11 comic reviewAfter breaking free of Goldfinger‘s control, Bond, Lee, and Agent K declare war on Oru. So thorough are the formidible threesome that Goldfinger decides to beat them to the punch and destroy small parts of his organization to make sure that what is left fear their master more than the troublemakers.

Leading into next month’s conclusion of the Goldfinger arc, Bond and his new friends certainly cause problems for their foe here… although trouble uncovered investigating Olympitech, and Bond and Lee’s governments refusing to sanction their current actions, lead into a final pitch by Goldfinger. It’s unlikely to sway Bond, but might it be enough to sway either of the other spies?

Spider-Man #1

Spider-Man #1 comic reviewNobody told me there was a sudden scarcity of Spider-Men in Marvel Comics? Oh, there’s not? Then why do we need a new one? And that’s the real question at the heart of Spider-Man #1, isn’t it.

Not wanting to be lost in the flood of Spider-Man and friends books already on the shelves every week, writers J.J. Abrams and Henry Abrams attempt to go for something shocking. Honestly, it left me cold in much the way Duke was killed off in the new G.I. JOE #1 for no other reason than to garner attention and make a splash.

Here it’s Mary Jane who dies leaving an ill-equipped Peter Parker to raise their son who (after jumping several years in the future) discovers his father passed down more to him than just and old camera.

G.I. JOE #1

G.I. JOE #1 comic reviewIn the new volume of G.I. JOE the Joes have lost the battle with Cobra. Now working covertly, those that remain at large work as saboteurs and spies hoping to deal a blow to the enemy that has already taken the country.

There isn’t much here for me, and I doubt I’ll be spending much time in this timeline (IDW still has the less bleak current G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero continuing where I’ll gladly go to get my fill of the brand). Not only is Cobra victorious in this reality, but a core Joe is killed in the opening pages (as nothing more than to make a statement about just how bad things have become).
