Batman: Dark Patterns #2

As Batman: Dark Patterns my interest is leaning more to the art than the story. The second issue of the twelve-issue maxi-series offers the return and capture of the self-mutilated killer we saw in Batman: Dark Patterns #1 who Batman successfully captures. However, due to the incompetence of the coroner who Batman warned Gordon about in the first issue the character (who really only had a single-issue shelf-life for me) may be sticking around even longer.

Batgirl #3

Against her wishes, Batgirl flees with Shiva from Gotham where every new discovery just adds to her confusion on a train out of town. In her mother’s followers she discovers the possibility of Shiva caring for others. Her distrust of her mother returns with the discovery of the League of Assassins, now apparently allies, also onboard the train leading to a reveal of other unexpected riders and more questions for Cassandra Cain.

West Coast Avengers #2

The second issue of West Coast Avengers features the team taking on some gun runners who turn out to be the Sovereign Sons led by Flag-Smasher. Spider-Woman gets a bit of a highlight here as the point woman with the others jumping in as the battle heats up. By putting a cruise ship at risk, our baddie manages to escape (after going toe-to-toe with the team without having to break a sweat). I’d expect to see Flag-Smasher again, although a new antagonist is revealed at the end of the issue.

A wounded Batman arrives with even graver news about stolen children, sending some of the team after the Parademon nest and others in search of the kids.

G.I. JOE #2

The second issue of the relaunched series gives us the end and aftermath of the Cobra raid on G.I. JOE which turned out to be highly successful (although Cobra may have brought more back than they intended). G.I. JOE #2 gives us plenty of Duke‘s hotheadedness pushing for one last surge to stop Cobra before end, and, later while receiving treatment, getting into a fight with the newest member of the squad Risk. On the battlefield, Duke’s actions earns the respect of his enemies, but will continually going off half-cocked cause trust issue with his friends?
