Deadline is reporting producer Joel Silver (who has produced everything from Veronica Mars to Unknown) wants to do a new Escape From New York trilogy beginning with a Rise of the Planet of the Apes-style origin setting up the post-apocalyptic world and providing the origins of Snake Plissken (who, most likely, will not be played by Kurt Russell)

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting screenwriter Alex Garland (Never Let Me Go, Sunshine) is set to make his directorial debut with Ex Machina which involves the misadventures of a lowly employee babysitting his billionaire employer’s artificially intelligent female robot

The latest from writer/director M. Night Shyamalan stars Will Smith and Jaden Smith as a father and son whose spaceship crash lands on Earth 1,000 years after humanity abandoned the planet. Zoë Kravitz, Isabelle Fuhrman, Kristofer Hivju, Gabriel Caste, Sophie Okonedo, and David Denman also star. After Earth opens in theaters on June 7th.

We’ve been hearing about director Joss Whedon‘s pet project, a new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing featuring several Whedon regulars, for more than a year now. Filmed in black and white at Whedon’s home over twelve days, the film stars Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof as Beatrice and Benedick. Nathan Fillion, Clark Gregg, Reed Diamond, Jillian Morgese, Fran Kranz, Sean Maher, Spencer Treat Clark, Ashley Johnson, and Riki Lindhome also star. Whedon’s take on Shakespeare will finally open in theaters on June 21st.
