KCFCC 46th Annual Loutzenhiser Awards

Philip Seymour Hoffman, The MasterEarlier today the Kansas City Film Critics Circle, the second oldest critics’ group in the country (of which I am proud to be a member), got together to vote on the 46th Annual Loutzenhiser Awards choosing the best in film we saw this year in 12 separate categories. The big winner of the afternoon was Paul Thomas Anderson‘s The Master which took home the award for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Original Screenplay. Best director went to Ang Lee for Life of Pi. Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Actor for his performance in Lincoln, and Jennifer Lawrence narrowly beat out Beasts of the Southern Wild‘s Quvenzhané Wallis for Best Actress for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook. There’s a new trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation which, despite recasting almost all of the roles from the previous film, continues the storyline of Cobra taking control of the White House and U.S. Military. Dwayne “It’s Okay To Call Me The Rock Again” Johnson, Channing TatumBruce WillisRay StevensonAdrianne PalickiRay ParkArnold Vosloo, and Byung-hun Lee star. Originally planned to hit theaters this past summer, the film will finally open on March 29th.

Man of Steel

Warner Bros. has released a (somewhat blurry) movie poster and new full-length trailer for Man of Steel, DC’s new Superman reboot starring Henry Cavill and directed by Zack Snyder. Although the new trailer doesn’t give away much more about the film’s plot than the earlier teaser trailer it does give us some strong hints that we are in for yet another origin tale as well as giving us glimpses of Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and Zod (Michael Shannon).
