Wilderness – The Other Woman

Only two episodes into the series, the revenge subplot gets further derailed when Cara (Ashley Benson) and her boyfriend show up on the same nature trail as Liv (Jenna Coleman) and Will (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). The awkward foursome head off on a trail together and band together a bit more after Will takes a tumble in the woods and his distraction leads to their car being stolen putting all four under the same hotel roof. We also get flashbacks to quite a bit of Liv stalking Cara in the weeks prior to the trip. Laying the melancholy on thick, after offering us a reason to root for murder at the end of the first episode, the second simply makes us sad for everyone involved.

Almost Paradise - Old Times

Setting up events for the season finale, “Old Times” features Alex (Christian Kane) looking into a murder at the Villegas Casino after both Ann (Max Collins) and the local authorities asked him to stay away from this case. Alex traces the unusual style of the murder back to that of a longtime assassin who he links to an elderly hotel guest (Kim Knuckey) and his wife (Carolyn Bock). What he doesn’t realize is the elderly couple are stringing him along and that he, not Ann, is their target. Alex’s interactions with the couple, while honestly liking the pair but attempting to pump them for information, are the highlights of the episode.

Scooby-Doo! - Ghastly Ghost Town

Scooby Sunday takes us back to another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. Premiering in September 1972, the first episode of The New Scooby-Doo Movies restructured the show into double-sized episodes written around celebrity guest-stars. The results were mixed, and the consistent quality of the animation does suffer as well. “Ghastly Ghost Town” was not one of the stronger episodes in which the gang run into the Three Stooges who have bought an old ghost town and are having trouble turning it into a theme park because of several odd events one of which includes an out-of-control robotic dinosaur.

Smallville – Rogue

Smallville Saturday takes us back to another kind of threat for Clark (Tom Welling) when a dirty Metropolis cop (Cameron Dye) discovers his secret and blackmails Clark into helping him. There’s quite a bit happening in the episode, not all of which can actually be resolved before the end including both Martha (Annette O’Toole) and Jonathan (John Schneider) being taken in for questions in a murder investigation based on Phelan‘s frame job that wouldn’t necessarily just immediately work itself out after his complicity in other crimes came to light. Despite that oversight, the episode is a standout of the First Season with Clark facing an entirely different kind of challenge with his powers, and his adoptive parents, being used against him.
