Murder Mystery Monday takes us back to the television detective who always had one more thing to ask. The first episode of Columbo to air (outside of the two pilots which have notable differences to the ongoing series of TV-movies), hits the ground running with most of the staples of the show including showing us the murder by the guest-star Jack Cassidy, as one-half of a writing team who kills off his partner (Martin Milner). Believing he has gotten away with the perfect murder, our killer isn’t ready for the rumpled detective to take the scene with a series of innocuous questions eventually finding the evidence to get his man.

Coming out of Critical Role, and with more than a passing resemblance to The Legend of Vox Machina (and taking place in that same world), the opening episode of The Mighty Nein begins bringing together a part of mismatched adventurers who will be called upon to save the world. The show kicks off with the theft of a religious artifact by magician assassins known as Volstrucker which raises the already tensions between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty to the brink of war.

Randy‘s (Caleb Foote) birthday and Franks (Kyle Schmid) growing agitation with too much change in his life anchor the episode where the NIS team looks to solve the death of a Marine found in an abandoned house in what appears to be part of some bizarre ritual. Believing he entered a similar case into the computer, Randy spends too much time in his search for Franks’ liking leading to a confrontation which also highlights Randy’s personality and making the best of a bad situation (even if Franks’ actions do manage to draw his ire).

The second episode of the series plays on both Bruce Wayne (Luke Wilson) as a helicopter parent and Damian‘s (Yonas Kibreab) proclivity to bend the rules, even if for a good cause, leading to trouble. Along with Judy (Reese Lores) and Trudy Dent (Natalie Palamides), Damian hatches a plan to sneak off on a field trip to S.T.A.R. Labs and break into the secure crime wing. Unable to chaperone, because of more Damian shenanigans, Bruce finds a way to push himself into the trip anyway making Damian’s plan all that harder to pull off.
