Remington Steele - Steele's Gold television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to a con man pretending to be the world’s greatest detective in Remington Steele. Gold fever is in the air in a crazy episode that begins with Remington Steele (Pierce Brosnan), Laura (Stephanie Zimbalist), and Murphy (James Read) witnessing a murder at a costume party while attempting to protect an exhibit of old California artifacts. The only thing missing from the exhibit turns out to be the journal of prospector which supposedly points to gold in them there hills. There are several colorful characters interested in the gold, and most aren’t what they initially appear to be. The guest cast includes James T. Callahan, Lois De Banzie, Spenser: For Hire‘s Barbara Stock, William Russ, Ben Rayson, and Ellis Ren. After a dizzying amount of reveals, Steele and Laura snuggling for warmth in a sleeping bag, and even Murphy catching the gold fever, the murder will be solved and gold will indeed be found.

“Sometimes, even the Devil deserves a little privacy.”

The Pretender - Once in a Blue Moon television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to another episode featuring a man who can be anyone he wants to be. A ghost from the past comes back to haunt Jarod (Michael T. Weiss) when a child is kidnapped in a manner that matches that of a serial killer he helped catch as a boy. Although the original Blue Moon Killer (Michael Des Barres) is still incarcerated, someone new is following his patterns which means the kidnapped girl only has a couple of days to live. Under the role of Special Agent Jarod Ressler of the Justice Department, Jarod talks with the original killer (whose mind he couldn’t get into years ago soon enough to save his last victim). The set-up is obvious nod to The Silence of the Lambs as he attempts to get into the man’s head who proves able to push Jarod’s buttons as well.

Debris - Solar Winds television review

The third episode of Debris continues the ongoing storylines of the shadowy private group looking to add to their own collection of debris (with the help of some members of the government) and the questions concerning Finola Jones’ (Riann Steele) not-so-dead father (Tyrone Benskin). The odd occurrence of the week takes place in a field where window mysterious appears and disappears, with other people trapped on the other side, without any apparent nearby debris (which is actually found rather easily once they begin investigating a larger area). The episode plays on the theory of certain places on Earth where the fabric of dimensions can allow someone to walk from one world through the next.

Batman: The Animated Series - The Cape and Cowl Conspiracy television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to Gotham City for another episode of Batman: The Animated Series. There are several interesting aspects to “The Cape and Cowl Conspiracy” including the show’s introduction of the Bat-Signal, giving us multiple death traps, featuring a villain forcing Batman (Kevin Conroy) to unmask, and offering Batman the opportunity to out think a villain whose modus operandi are in some ways similar to the Riddler (i.e. the core Bat-villain who received the least appearances on the show). In many ways, such as the villain’s attempts to lure Batman into danger through outrageous riddles, I wonder if “The Cape and Cowl Conspiracy” may have started as a Riddler episode or may have unintentionally evolved into something similar.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier - Episode 1 TV review

The first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the latest Marvel series to hit Disney+, shows promise. It also shows an inability to focus not unlike that of a ADHD pre-teen on a sugar high without ever giving us time to settle in and get comfortable in any one aspect of the larger story. Jumping around quite a bit, “Episode 1” catches viewers up on both Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). The opening sequence, which feels more than a little reminiscent of the ship rescue in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (complete with the return of Georges St-Pierre as Georges Batroc), confirms Sam’s role with some unnamed part of the United States Armed Forces while introducing a new character (Danny Ramirez) whose relationship to Sam is apparently to find trouble for the Falcon to solve.
