If you didn’t love Piper Perabo before, you will after watching Covert Affairs. The new Blu-ray collection includes all 75 episodes from the show’s five season run which saw the maturation of Annie Walker (Perabo) from CIA trainee to top agent.
Coming on the end of a great run of USA originals that included Monk, Burn Notice, and White Collar, the series follows Annie’s rise up the ranks as she deals with an ex-lover (Eion Bailey), a failed romantic entanglement with her handler and best-friend (Christopher Gorham), while struggling and succeeding at living a life of lies and danger inside Langley.
There are strong supporting roles as well with Kari Matchett and Peter Gallagher, and later Hill Harper and Sarah Clarke, as Annie’s bosses. The early seasons also give us Anne Dudek as Annie’s oblivious sister, Sendhil Ramamurthy as a frenemy within the Agency, and Emmanuelle Vaugier as a reporter after a story. And along the way we’ll also get Amy Jo Johnson, Richard Coyle and Nic Bishop as love interests, and Oded Fehr in the recurring role of Mossad agent Eyal Lavine.
Covert Affairs had an all-too-short run. Highlights collected include every Eyal episode, attempting to turn the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister of Yemen into an asset, a working with Arthur to take down Henry Wilcox leading to Annie working off-the-grid and a deadly conclusion of the Fourth Season, a hostage situation in Mexico City, Auggie getting shanghaied by pirates, Annie juggling conflicting orders in Berlin, going to work for Lena, Annie’s return home after her stint in a Russian prison, and so much more.
