Stargirl – The Complete Third Season

  • Title: Stargirl – Season 3

It’s a little unfortunate the Stargirl didn’t start a year or two earlier. One of the better shows of the Arrowverse, the show concluded with its third and final season collected here on DVD (but oddly not also available on Blu-ray which both the previous seasons were released on). The season continues the heroic journey of Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) who is thrown for a loop by the return of the original Starman (Joel McHale) who outwardly attempts to help while sewing descension and uncertainty among the group in hopes of gaining control of the staff.

Highlights of the season included Courtney discovering Cameron (Hunter Sansone) has his father’s powers which she chooses not to share with the JSA, the fall-out of the journey to the Shadowlands and introduction of the Ultra-Humanite and later reveal of his plans involving Sylvester, the final appearances of reformed criminals Crusher (Neil Hopkins) and Paula (Stella Smith), and the series finale featuring the heroes coming together a final time.

All 13 episodes are included here on three discs. It’s not a perfect season, with “Chapter Six” being a bit of a misfire, but there’s still plenty of enjoyment here and room for Courtney’s doubt to push her to the side before fighting to regain her role as Blue Valley’s hero. Other notable pieces of the season include the return of Icicle (Neil Jackson) and the further turmoil it causes Courtney’s friendships, the usual internal drama of the teen heroes including Rick‘s (Cameron Gellman) misuse of the hourglass, the investigation into the murder of the Gambler (Eric Goins), and the ongoing B-thread of Mike (Trae Romano) and Jakeem (Alkoya Brunson) attempting to recruit Cindy (Meg DeLacy)  to their team.
