Far Sector #10

Far Sector #10 comic reviewSojourner Mullein has been sent to the edge of the known universe to a city built on the forced emotional suppression its people. A side-effect over time has been the creation of a dark underground to exploit emotional scarcity by relying on the slave labor of ordinary citizens. The slaves are addicted to Switchoff which stops the emotional exploit allowing them to feel and create a profitable commodity, but also has created loose canons and secrets desperately needing to be kept leading to disruption like that which brought Sojourner to the City Enduring. Putting the final pieces into place and seeing it in action creates an impressive emotional response in our Green Lantern.

Legacies - Goodbyes Sure Do Suck television review

Legacies says goodbye to a one of its core cast as Rafael (Peyton ‘Alex’ Smith) discovers he only has a single day to live. Although Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) finds a last-minute save by transporting Rafael to the prison world with his parents, theoretically allowing the character to return in limited fashion, much of the episode involves the various characters struggling to say farewell. The early season exit, following Josie (Kaylee Bryant) leaving school to spend time with her mother at the end of the season premiere, seems to suggest Season Three will shake things up a bit (although the episode was originally planned for the end of Season Two prior to the COVID truncated timeline). Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) continues to show some growth here as we see a glimpse of the possible relationship with Rafael which will now never happen.

Batman: Black and White #2

Batman: Black and White #2 comic reviewThe second issue of Batman: Black and White #2 gives us five more stories of Batman. The best of the list comes from Sophie Campbell. “All Cats are Prey” is a silent story featuring Batman chasing Catwoman, once in a black costume and later once in a white costume which allows her to hide from him in the snow (an idea which she steals from seeing an all-white cat hide from her).

“The Devil is in the Detail” offers an adventure from Batman’s early career, in the style of an old newspaper cartoon, as the Dark Knight Detective searches for a killer decapitating victims in a devil’s ritual which leads back to seven members of the GCPD and Gordon’s boss. In “The Unjust Judge” Batman is unable to save a priest from a collapsed church but stays with the priest until the end.
