Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Out of the Past television review

With the team now in the 1950s, “Out of the Past” takes advantage of damage to Coulson‘s (Clark Gregg) LMD systems to offer a film noir episode. Damage to his optics renders nearly the entire episode in black and white while damage to other systems meas his thoughts will continue to echo around his skull providing narration for the events which follow. As with the other episodes of the season, the mission remains the same: keep history on the right path. This week that means helping Agent Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) deliver vital technology to S.H.I.E.L.D. before it falls in to the hands of either Hydra or the Chronicoms. As to the fate of Sousa, who history says dies at the end of his successful mission, whether or not to meddle with his fate offers a much harder choice.

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #272

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #272 comic reviewThrowdown (who Cobra still mistakenly believe is the original Snake Eyes) makes his escape attempt as the Joes continue to mobilize by land, air, and space. Putting pieces in place for the final three issues of the “Snake Hunt” arc, G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #272 features Joes in buses, planes, and deploying a satellite in space. Zartan and Destro‘s teams also rendezvous with the the Joe caravan and the Arashikage arrive in Springfield as well.

The only real action from G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #272 comes from our hero’s attempt to escape the Cobra bunker before Cobra Commander and Dr. Mindbender can turn him into a puppet for Cobra. Throwdown does fairly well against such odds, but with so much of the story left to tell, I’ll guess he’s not making it out on his own just yet.

Throwback Thursday takes us back to crime-ridden streets of St. Canard and a hero who flaps in the night. Framed as through the lens of Darkwing Duck (Jim Cummings) digging into his old case files, “Beauty and the Beet” offers the origins of Bushroot (Tino Insana) from scientist to a half-plant hybrid. Fired from St. Canard University, Dr. Bushroot attempts to prove the worth of his research concerning human photosynthesis by experimenting on himself (which turns out to have unexpected consequences).
