Buffy the Vampire Slayer #5 comic reviewXander Harris is a vampire. However, their may still be hope for one of the original Scoobies as Giles comes up with a possible way to save their friend’s soul before the demon takes over completely. With Xander being turned within the first four issues of the new series we definitely see an even larger break with the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer continuity. At this point writer Jordie Bellaire and artist Dan Mora have me unsure just how this will turn out. While this last-second, available through Anya‘s magic shop, offers hope, I do wonder just what the creators of the new Buffy have in mind for Xander as the story unfolds.

Spenser: For Hire - Death by Design television review

For Throwback Thursday we turn we turn our attention back to the mean streets of Boston. Spenser (Robert Urich) finds nothing but trouble after taking on a friend of Susan (Barbara Stock) as a client. Continually lied to by the college professor (Robin Groves) who asks Spenser to track down a gigolo (Burke Moses) who stole some jewelry from her, Spenser stumbles on something more complicated involving the money the woman stole to willingly give to the con man, a mobster’s (Hansford Rowe) interest in the professor’s work which could be turned into a profitable new street drug, and scummy private investigator (Leon Russom) in the middle of it all.

Black Cat #1 comic reviewBlack Cat #1 introduces us to our main character in the middle of a heist by Felicia Hardy which is as much about her skill as a thief as her ability to use that reputation for misdirection in order to snag the big score. The issue ends with the introduction of the Black Fox who trained Felicia’s father. A far younger version of the character also appears in the back-up story “The Black Fox in Leaving Miami” which shows the thief’s skill and guile in stealing from Dracula.

Along with an appearance by the Black Fox, the main story also offers introduction to the Black Cat’s crew and the added obstacle for Felicia in the New York Thieves Guild who believe the Black Cat owes them and will stop at nothing to collect.

A Nero Wolfe Mystery - Christmas Party TV review

Today’s Throwback Thursday post takes us back to mid 20th Century New York and the private detective offices located at 454 W. 35th Street. Making terrific use of Francie Swift, who so perfectly fits the role as fatale in the show’s setting, “Christmas Party” is one of my favorite episodes of the series in which Archie (Timothy Hutton) is able to put one over on his boss and Nero Wolfe (Maury Chaykin) makes an out-of-character mistake that puts them both in the middle of a murder investigation. Invited to a Christmas party by his sometimes dancing partner Margot Dickey (Swift) who plans to use Archie (and the fake marriage licence he was able to procure) as a needed push to get her boss (Robert Bockstael) to marry her, Archie is front-and-center when their host drops dead of poison. So is Nero Wolfe, disguised as the party’s Santa Claus in order to get a good look at the woman Archie has informed his boss he plans to wed.
