Preacher - Call and Response

Opening 17 hours before Jesse‘s (Dominic Cooper) sermon and ending at roughly the exact spot which the original comic begins, Preacher closes out it’s First Season with an eventful final episode. Before attempting to show God to his entire congregation, there’s a full day of events for Jesse and his friends. While avoiding the law, Tulip (Ruth Negga) brings the Preacher face-to-face with the man who ruined their lives. Meanwhile, Hugo (W. Earl Brown) takes his anger and frustration out on Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) hoping to find satisfaction and answers about Euguene‘s (Ian Colletti) disappearance. However, the sheriff finds near answers or solace in repeatedly shooting a caged vampire.

Red Hood and the Outlaws: Rebirth #1

Red Hood and the Outlaws: Rebirth #1Red Hood and the Outlaws: Rebirth #1 doesn’t introduce us to the new Outlaws, but the issue does catch-up readers on the history of Jason Todd from street urchin to Robin the Boy Wonder to the Red Hood. It also introduces a plot to keep Jason a part of the extended Bat-Family but still separate from its core members. It’s a little odd that both Red Hood and Nightwing are going undercover with underground criminal organizations, but the set-up (at least for me) works far better here than with Dick Grayson.

We’ll have to wait for Red Hood and the Outlaws #1 for the introductions of both Bizarro and Artemis, and the how and why they team-up with the vigilante. While certainly doing its job to reintroduce Jason to the DCU the comic doesn’t do much to explain the set-up of the new series with two of its key figures (and their relationship to Jason) unexplored.

The trip to Naboo turns out to be even trouble as R0-GR (Matthew Wood), Zander (Eugene Byrd), and Kordi (Vanessa Lengies) get individually distracted in an Imperial museum. Rowan‘s (Nicolas Cantu) misstep gets his family captured by Durpin (Richard Kind) by Plumestriker (Jeff Bennett), but his quick thinking keeps his family out of Imperial hands. However, the arrival of Naare and Dengar (James Patrick Stuart) leaves the Freemakers once again empty-handed with only a single Kyber Crystal remaining.
