The Librarians and the Infernal Contract

Following the disappearance of an idealistic campaign volunteer (Kanani Rose Rogers) the Librarians head to a small New Hampshire town where an old friend (Michael Trucco) of Eve (Rebecca Romijn) is running against an incumbent Mayor (Matt Nolan) whose family has an ace-in-the-hole thanks to a deal with a devil (John de Lancie). To beat the devil the group will have to think outside of the box as the contract’s magical properties keep preventing the group from changing the outcome. It also doesn’t help when the other candidate decides that maybe the devil could help him win the election.

Shaun the Sheep MovieThe British stop-motion animated television series gets its own movie when a little farmyard tomfoolery leads to the Farmer (John Sparkes) getting lost in the big city with a nasty case of amnesia. So it falls on Shaun (Justin Fletcher) the sheep and the rest of his flock to find their missing friend and bring him home.

Shaun the Sheep Movie is a throwback screwball comedy as Shaun and his friends scour the city for the Farmer in ridiculous costumes, cause a break-out of an animal control center, and generally cause all kinds of mischief wherever they go. Completely dialogue free, the movie’s humor doesn’t miss a beat or need to rely on any form of exposition to tell its story. Marvelously animated, the film is a joy to behold.

Once Upon a Time - Broken Heart

“Broken Heart” wraps up the Camelot flashbacks in an episode that focuses on Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) taking naturally to his role as a Dark One both in Camelot and in Storybrooke following the return of his memory. We witness the casting to the curse, the reasoning behind Emma’s mindwipe of her friends and family, and the death of Merlin (Elliot Knight) and the hands of the Dark Ones. With Emma‘s (Jennifer Morrison) plans in shambles she have to do what she can to win back the trust of her loved ones starting with Henry (Jared Gilmore).

Atomic Robo and the Ring of Fire #3

Atomic Robo and the Ring of Fire #3Giant monsters attacking the world makes for strange bedfellows. Atomic Robo and his team accept an alliance with China’s “Most Perfect Science Division” to help fight Task Force Ultra and Majestic and stop the Biomega attacks around the world. Giving them access to state-of-the-art technology this allows the team to quickly construct Robo with a new body (although the slimmed down version lacks some of the appeal of the original, in my opinion).

On the larger stage we also get a look at the Titan program struggles to stop the growing threat of the Biomega (Pacific Rim style) which only adds to the pressure for Robo and his team to find a solution while also attempting to rebuild Atomic Robo’s unique power source all while hiding their technological breakthroughs from their Chinese partners who otherwise could recreate the tech for their own purposes after the threat has past. Their solution is inventive.

Doctor Who - Face the Raven

It had been 33 years since the death of an ongoing companion (not counting Peri‘s death which was retconned out of the series almost immediately). That streak is over. “Face the Raven” says a final goodbye to the Impossible Girl (well, except for a dreamlike cameo in “Heaven Sent”). Like it or not, Clara Oswald‘s (Jenna Coleman) time of traveling through space and time have come to an end. I’ll give writer Sarah Dollard credit for making Clara’s exit mean something and propelling the season in an unexpected direction. I’ll also take a moment to mourn the show’s loss of Clara who leaves big shoes to fill for whomever steps in as the next companion. You will be missed Jenna Coleman.
