Superman - Stolen Memories

With a new Superman in now in theaters every now and then I’ll continue to take a look back at the hero’s more memorable moments on both the big and small screen. After being introduced in the show’s Pilot, Brainiac (Corey Burton) finally makes it to Earth in “Feeding Time” when the knowledge-seeking artificial lifeform makes contact with Lex Luthor (Clancy Brown) and agrees to trade technology and innovation in exchange for the full knowledge of Earth. Brainiac also makes Superman (Tim Daly) an offer to share his knowledge of Krypton with the Man of Steel in exchange for Superman leaving Earth with Braniac and venturing out into the larger universe.

Perception - Alienation

While hiding both the fact that he’s stopped taking his medication and the return of his hallucinations of Natalie (Kelly Rowan) from his real, but still secret, girlfriend (also Rowan), Daniel (Eric McCormack) is approached by Kate (Rachael Leigh Cook) whose latest case involves a woman (Hedy Burress) who believes her husband (Geoffrey Blake) was abducted by aliens and replaced with a duplicate. Daniel diagnoses the woman is likely suffering from Capgras syndrome, caused by a recent aneurysm, which has made the woman believe both her husband and best friend (Maggie Wheeler) are aliens from outer space.

Justice League #21

Justice League #21DC Comics regrettable reboot of Captain Marvel‘s origin concludes her with the new dickish and rather dim (seriously, where’s the wisdom of Solomon when you need it?) Captain Marvel, I’m still not calling him Shazam, fighting it out with Black Adam and evil of the Seven Deadly Sins possessing a guy who was once mean to Billy (who, let’s face it, this a-hole version of the beloved character who defined purity, grace, honesty, and wonder for more than 70 years probably deserved it).

The issue is only really memorable for the introduction of the Marvel Family. Wait, are we supposed to call the the Shazam Family now? Can anyone really say Mary Shazam or Shazam Jr. with a straight face? Anyway, Black Adam (being the dullard that he is) teaches Billy to share his powers and give them to his adopted foster family and Tawky Tawny (sadly transforming him into the Battle Cat Flashpoint version (the alternate reality so gritty it had to be destroyed… insert your own ironic joke here), not the classic awesomeness of a talking tiger in a well-tailored suit). Also, no Hoppy. Sigh.

Pretty Little Liars - Face Time

Col. Fields (Eric Steinberg) returns home to a Family Services investigation into Emily (Shay Mitchell) and her mother (Nia Peeples). He also has troubling dealing with daughter who is distraught over the trouble she has caused as well as the news that surgery may be necessary to repair her shoulder and there’s no guarantee that doing so won’t end her days of competitive swimming (and any hopes of a college scholarship). A uses the rising tension in the house, and Emily running away that night to spend some time with Paige (Lindsey Shaw) to continue to make it look like there is something seriously wrong in the Fields’ household. Of all attacks A has orchestrated none have have been more vicious as whispers about domestic violence in Rosewood are not likely to be quieted anytime soon.

Guardians of the Galaxy #4

Guardians of the Galaxy #4Following their escape from the Spartax forces, the Guardians of the Galaxy celebrate in an alien bar, Tony Stark makes a move on Gamora (and gets insulted again by Rocket Raccoon), and when more Spartax soldiers show up looking for them they get into a bar-clearing brawl.

As the rest of the Guardians enjoy their fun, Gamora sneaks out only to be attacked by a bounty hunter looking to cash in on the not inconsiderate price on her head (and that of her teammates). Thankfully the bounty hunter underestimates both Gamora and the speed which her friends show up to help.

Guardians of the Galaxy continues to mix wild space action with some great humor (although I’d prefer more Rocket Raccoon and Groot and less Tony Stark). The art of the comic does take a hit with Sara Pichelli stepping in to replace Steve McNiven. It’s not a badly drawn book by any means, and I do like Pichelli’s take on Gamora specifically, but the art isn’t up to the par of the first handful of issues. Worth a look.

[Marvel, $3.99]
