Appleseed: Ex Machina

  • Title: Appleseed: Ex Machina

About three weeks ago I brought forth the anime about a stunning young woman and her cyborg partner.  Both Appleseed and the sequel Appleseed Ex Machina are done in beautiful CG animation, making the films badass characters look even more badass as they flip around in combat.  The story sort of takes off with the same idea as last time, the two main characters, Deunan Knute and Briareous the cyborg, combating against evil to keep their Utopian society.

The story isn’t so plain and straight forward, the villain is different this time and there is a twist.  The team, Deunan and Briareous are split up!  That doesn’t sound like much of a twist without the knowledge of her new partner.  Briareous is one of a kind, well that is until they made Tereus.

As a Buffy fan I love me some Eliza Dushku, but I never really got into this coroner/time traveller tale.  Fox Home Entertainment has repackaged both first and second seasons of Tru Calling together for a complete series set.  In the series, Dushku stars as a woman working the night shift in the morgue who discovers the ability to re-start her day in order to save someone’s life.  Fans of the show can check out the series’ intro and a short interview with its star below.  The 7-disc box set will be avialable on August 12th.

  • Title: Watchmen

The first full-length trailer for Watchmen was released online late last week.  Of course you probably saw it when you went to watch The Dark Knight this weekend.  If not, what’s wrong with you?  Anywho, here’s the trailer for the film due out next March.  Certainly looks pretty enough, but it does nothing to settle my fears about condensing the most dense graphic novel ever made into a single slick looking film with Zack Snyder at the helm.
