Wanted…Less Much Less

  • Title: Wanted

I went after Wanted with full force. I was really looking forward to a little James McAvoy action and honestly I used to think Angelina was hot, but now she truly needs to invest in a donut factory and eat up. Sadly every time I got a good look at James or even a decent action shot he looked constipated in slow motion, that wasn’t too hot. And the slow motion blood splatters and bullets going through the human skulls, a little over done and too much computer work.

Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy ), a bored account manager, starts with a voice over about how much he hates his job, best friend, girlfriend and ultimately his life. His job is setting in a cubicle with a fat redhead breathing down his neck with a stapler demanding results and being totally obnoxious. His girlfriend is screwing his only friend and he doesn’t have the balls to confront him about it, so instead he provides condoms so his buddy can continue banging his girlfriend over lunch. His life is the same shit day in and day out, till an assassin bites it and they come for him.

Wanted

“I am John Wayne in True Grit.  I am Charles Bronson in Death Wish.  I am Clint Eastwood in all five Dirty Harry flicks and all the best spaghetti westerns.  I am Jean-Claude van Damme.  I am Sly Stallone. I am Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon and Chuck Norris in the Way of the Dragon.  I am Lee Marvin.  I am Sean Connery.  I am Arnold Goddam Schwarzenegger…and you my friend, are fucked.”

Wesley Gibson is a loser.  Every day Wesley goes to his dead-end job, taking shit from his boss and hiding out in his cubicle.  His best friend is sleeping with his girlfriend, he’s a hyproconriac, and views himself as the most insignifigant man on the face of the planet.  However, all that is about to change.

Wesley’s father, a man he has never met, is killed and Wesley is tapped by his father’s friends to continue in his stead.  You see Wesley’s father was a super villain known as The Killer, and Wesley, unbeknownst to him, has inherited his father’s gifts for killing.  Wesley is recruited by the Fraternity, a group of super villains who now rule the world from behind the scenes after eliminating the last of the super-heroes back in 1986.  Through magic, science, and mind control they have remade the world to forget about heroes and give themselves ultimate power.

George Carlin

Sad news today folks.  George Carlin, the hardest working comedian around, died at the age of 71 due to heart failure on Sunday night in Santa Monica, California.  With a career spanning more than half a century Carlin continued to tour on college campuses and night clubs well after becoming a household name with his best-selling albums and books.  He will be most remembered for his famous bit on the “7 Words You Can’t Say on Television,” but he gave us so much more.  For his biting social commentary, his love of the absurd (and all those little things which we have in common), pushing the boundaries of comedy and good taste, and for so much more, he will be missed.  To honor his memory HBO has announced it will re-air many of Carlin’s specials (dating back to 1977) this week on both HBO and HBO2.  We’ve got some of his most memorable moments for you inside – Language (of course) is NSFW.

This Week in Animated Film

  • Title: WALL-E
  • IMDB: link

From the folks at Pixar comes this Short Circuit-like tale (he even looks like Johnny Number 5) of a robot out to discover the meaning of life in the far future after humanity has abandoned the planet.  Although there are several small roles in the film most of the “dialogue” will be done by sound designer Ben Burtt in an R2-D2 kinda’ way.  Check out the official site.  The search begins in theaters on Friday.
