Rush Hour 3

To date the last of the Rush Hour films, Rush Hour 3 is the weakest (by far). Every aspect of the film feels tired, pulling lesser versions of villains from both the first two films, and throwing Lee (Jackie Chan) and Carter (Chris Tucker) together ending up in Paris. We get the the abduction of Soo Yung (Jingchu Zhang) like in the first film, the evil philanthropist (Max Von Sydow) in plain sight like the first film, a villain (Hiroyuki Sanada) tied to Lee’s past like in the second film, and bigger stunts, goofy sequences (including Carter’s groanworthy fight sequence in a dojo and the molestation by French cops) and exotic locales in an attempt to hide the script’s many, many problems.

With the three parties together and the secrets of how Marcille (Emily Rudd) attempted to save Falin (Lisa Reimold) revealed, “Harpy/Chimera” deals with the fallout revealing Shuro‘s (Shinji Kawada) complicated emotions to the brother of the woman he loves. However, despite the internal arguments, the big fight comes with the arrival of the Chimera Falin has been turned into. After the fight, and what is left of his sister’s departure, Laios (Damien C. Haas) doubles down on his plan to find and defeat the mad mage knowing that this is the only way his sister can be saved.

The third issue of the series is more interesting in its flashbacks than the present where we don’t see much advancement to the story other than Clint Barton feeling some enhanced anger since the symbiote saved his life and being haunted by its thoughts which don’t have a high opinion of the man or his current plans (on his plans, the symbiote has a point).

Mr. Monk Meets Dale the Whale

Monk Monday takes us back to San Francisco and the toils of the defective detective Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) attempting to solve a case where he knows the who but cannot fathom the how. The who in this case is excessively obese Dale the Whale (Adam Arkin) who all evidence points to murdering a local judge he had disagreements with. However, Dale Biederbeck is too large to leave his own apartment let alone travel across town and kill someone. Knowing they can’t possible tie him to the crime, Biederbeck taunts both Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) and Monk reopening old wounds for our detective.
