Zorro – Mask Games / The Myth
In “Mask Games,” Diego’s (Miguel Bernardeau) actions force the Governor (Rodolfo Sancho) to put up the Ramirez land for auction. With the help of the an unlikely ally, and Mei (Chacha Huang) as their go between, Diego is able to keep the Russians from the bidding on the land although he himself is also kept away with his introduction to the secret cult of the Bear Clan, leaving Bernardo (Paco Tous) to place the last minute winning bid. So far, the fumbled development of the secret society has been one of the show’s only mistakes.

For what is supposedly the start of a new arc, I found Batman #142 messy and confusing. Falling back onto DC’s most overused theme, the comic offers us “Year One” of the Joker. Beginning after his swan dive into the chemical vat, the comic picks up with three members of the Red Hood Gang (rather than just one) being exposed to the chemicals. While “Red Hood One” begins his story after being transformed, the other two are similarly changed.

After jumping through the portal to save her friends and family, closing it after her, the Second Season of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur opens with Lunella (Diamond White) lost in space-time only to be saved by the Beyonder (Laurence Fishburne). Introduced halfway through the show’s First Season, this version of the comic character plays an awful lot like Mister Mxyzptlk, an overpowered creature popping in to cause havoc and chaos for our heroine. This time, the Beyonder saves Moon Girl, but rather than take her straight home he instead chooses to take her to one of his favorite worlds… which unfortunately for them has seen better days since his last visit and where his powers no longer work.

Set after the events of the ThunderCats crashlanding on Third Earth, this new series offers a few panels to explain the backstory before jumping into the young Lion-O itching to prove himself as leader. I’m glad the comic starts after the Thundercats arrive, but it does have the unenviable position of dealing with Lion-O at his most insufferable period. Personally, I wouldn’t have minded setting the series a bit further down the line where the leader of the ThunderCats had matured.
