Loosely inspired by the life of British comedian John Bishop, Will Arnett stars as a newly-separated fortysomething who discovers a way to talk through his issues by doing stand-up comedy. At times the film is a little cute for its own good such as how Alex (Arnett) falls into comedy while high, the manner in which his secret is discovered, and the unavoidable kid performances and parties all movies like this seem contracted to contain.

Adapted from Stefanie London’s novel The Dachshund Wears Prada, Paws in the City has more bark than bite. The TV-movie casts Emeraude Toubia as failed social media consultant Issa, whose downfall we see early in the film. Needing a job and running into the new CEO of a publishing house whose grandmother left him a troublesome dachshund Camilla who seems to take to Issa, Theo (Carter Jenkins) hires her on the spot (despite his hatred of publicity in general and social media especially).

In typical romcom holiday style, we get big city executive Belinda Sawyer (Emeraude Toubia) heading west to broker a deal for her company to buy out a small local business in Santa Fe, New Mexico. One there, Belinda is charmed by the oldest son Tony (Mario Lopez) and their buiness while the rest of the family is far more unsure about giving up their autonomy.

Highlighting the struggles of farmers in Macedonia, director Tamara Kotevska‘s film showcases Nikola and his family unable to make a profit on one of the farm’s best harvests and unable to sell the farm for more than a fraction of its worth due to new governmental policies. After his daughter and her family move away, and Nikola’s wife goes with them to help with the children, Nikola finds himself alone. Needing money, he takes a job at the local landfill where he discovers and injured stork who he adopts and nurses back to health helping soothe his loneliness.
